PFP Law contribution to ICLG – Merger Control 2026 (Slovenia chapter)

13 January 2026No Comments

PFP Law competition law experts Matevž Klobučar and Tomaž Petrovič contributed the Slovenia chapter to the International Comparative Legal Guide (ICLG) – Merger Control 2026.

ICLG – Merger Control covers common issues in merger control laws and regulations. The 2026 edition features three expert analysis chapters and 30 Q&A jurisdiction chapters covering key issues.

Highlights from our contribution to the Guide:
Regulatory Authority & Legal Framework – Merger control in Slovenia is governed by the updated Competition Act, EU rules, and sector-specific regulations. Foreign mergers may trigger FDI screening, and acquisitions in banking, insurance, or media need sectoral approval;
Scope of Transactions – Detailed definitions of what constitutes a “concentration”, including minority acquisitions and full-function joint ventures;
Notification Requirements – Filing deadlines, thresholds, simplified procedures and associated risks for non-compliance;
Substantive Review – Criteria for assessing competition effects, including horizontal and vertical impacts;
Remedies & Enforcement – Options for addressing competition concerns, appeal mechanisms, and recent enforcement record.

The publication is available here (in English).

The ICLG series of reference publications brings key cross-border insights to legal practitioners worldwide, covering 58 practice areas. The publications are co-created by publishers Global Legal Group (GLG), an independent London-based legal media company, and a multinational panel of expert legal contributors who together gather, research and publish the primary cross-border legal guidance necessary for law firms, companies, governments and individuals to operate globally.
